Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director in technology as part of the Wealth & Investment Management Technology team. This candidate will lead the architecture, modernization, and execution of enterprise platforms supporting wealth and investment technology capabilities. This is a senior technology leadership role for a strategic, hands-on technologist who can operate at enterprise scale, influence executive stakeholders, and drive transformation across complex, regulated environments. In this role, you will own the technical vision and platform strategy, guide multiple engineering teams, and shape the future-state architecture for mission-critical wealth and investment platforms.
This role provides strategic leadership for engineering organizations by managing engineering managers and leads to deliver technology outcomes aligned with enterprise priorities. Drives platform strategy adoption through strong partnerships with business and technology stakeholders, guiding the development of actionable roadmaps and execution plans. Ensures excellence in software engineering practices, including craftsmanship, security, scalability, and resilience, while overseeing solutions delivered by internal and third-party teams. Owns financial management, capacity planning, and resource allocation to support complex initiatives, while establishing risk management frameworks and controls for critical decisions such as go/no-go, risk acceptance, and rollback execution.
This role fosters a high-performing culture focused on talent development, hiring, and retention, while promoting innovation and continuous improvement across engineering practices. Brings deep expertise in large-scale platform engineering and distributed systems, with the ability to integrate cross-functional deliverables and influence senior leaders. Additionally, serves as a command center leader during incidents and releases, translating technical challenges into clear business impact and decision options, ensuring executive stakeholders are informed and aligned to achieve measurable outcomes.

In this Role, You Will
- Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads
- Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities
- Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
- Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans
- Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices
- Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third party providers
- Identify financial management and strategic resourcing
- Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
- Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent
- Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation
- Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
- Lead team to achieve objectives
- Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership
- Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
- 4+ years of management or leadership experience
- 4+ years of experience leading large-scale, high-pressure incident bridges involving multiple teams and stakeholders
- 1+ Hands-on experience using AI productivity tools such as Copilot or similar
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience supporting wealth management, brokerage, trading, or investment platforms
- Prior experience with running platform engineering teams - leading business resiliency and contact center technology teams
- Hands on experience of running major business incidents, communications & escalations
- Proficient in running major cross functional releases
- Experience with integrating business deliverables across various functions with cross functional, enterprise teams
- Strong background in large-scale platform engineering and distributed systems
- Experience working within regulated or risk-focused environments
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder-influencing skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical situations in clear, concise business terms
- Strong organizational navigation skills, with the ability to influence teams across multiple functions without direct authority
