About the team
The Methodology and Model Development Group (MMDG) at Moody's Ratings develops all the methodologies and analytical tools used in the rating process. The team is a critical contributor to Moody's Ratings methodologies across all sectors.
The Modelling and Quantitative Analytics Group (MQA) within MMDG advances quantitative modelling, data analysis and innovation, including Artificial Intelligence, to strengthen credit loss analytics and support transparent communication of the analytical foundations of Moody's Ratings methodologies.
MMDG works closely with all groups across Moody's Ratings to ensure methodologies are robust, consistent and fit for purpose.
Responsibilities
In MQA we are seeking an Executive Director to lead a global team of quantitative analysts and applied statisticians responsible for developing, calibrating and enhancing models and analytical tools used in the rating process. Reporting to the Head of Modelling & Quantitative Analytics, this leader will help shape the next generation of transparent, predictive and easy-to-use analytical capabilities.
The successful candidate will combine strong quantitative judgment with strategic leadership, people development and change management. They will simplify ways of working, strengthen consistency and transparency in modelling practices, and guide the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies in model development.
This role requires a collaborative and inclusive leader who can build trusted relationships across business, analytical, technology and control functions; translate stakeholder needs into action; and communicate complex analytical topics clearly to senior audiences.
The Executive Director will also attract, develop and empower high-performing talent, champion diverse perspectives and create an environment where teams can innovate, learn and deliver with impact. This is a highly visible role for a pragmatic, decisive and execution-focused leader with the credibility to influence across a global organization. Main responsibilities:
- Lead model development, calibration, maintenance and enhancement to ensure best in class analytical approaches
- Facilitate, develop and implement strategic quantitative solutions to ensure Moody's is the Rating Agency of Choice for now and the future.
- Partner with senior leaders and analytical teams to understand business priorities, market developments and the analytical rationale for model design and use.
- Oversee the model development pipeline, set priorities and provide clear, transparent progress updates to senior management.
- Identify and implement process, technology and analytical improvements that reduce risk, improve efficiency and strengthen model quality and facilitate digitalization.
- Build, develop and retain a high-performing global team with strong credit, quantitative, technical and change leadership capabilities.
- Lead initiatives that advance innovation, including the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in model development.
- Foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives, collaboration and continuous learning lead to better outcomes.
- Set a strong leadership example by acting with integrity, building trust and creating clarity for the team.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in Credit modeling, statistical analysis, validation, or equivalent.
- Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Math, Statistics or equivalent
- Experience managing global quantitative teams, with a track record of motivating people, developing talent and leveraging diverse skillsets.
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence models and tools.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute across teams and simplify quantitative and data work to support digitalization.
- Proven ability to lead change, foster creativity and innovation, and adopt new modelling and technology tools for predictive analytics.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex analytical and strategic issues clearly and influence varied audiences.
- Collaborative, inclusive and open-minded leader who works across functions, builds trust and successfully manages change through partnership.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $233,700.00 - $338,850.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a completion bonus. Moody's also offers insurance and a discounted employee stock purchase plan for limited duration employees.
