Company Overview
Humanity Forward Foundation is a 501 c-3 charitable organization determined to advance basic income through pilots, programs, and research. Job displacement, income inequality and automations are serious threats facing American society, pushing more families into poverty. Our focus is to develop and demonstrate the efficacy of Universal Basic Income as a real solution to some of the biggest challenges we face today. We provide cash assistance to Americans facing the threat of job displacement or income loss due to destabilizing events, and study the efficacy of such support programs.
Founded by Andrew Yang, the Humanity Forward Foundation is driven by the belief that putting direct cash relief in the hands of people affords them the freedom to choose how to improve the lives of their family.
Today, too many barriers are holding people in America back. The unforeseen loss of a job or an emergency trip to the hospital—and the ensuing struggle to navigate the complex system of benefits and coverage — can set a family back for years, preventing us from realizing our human potential, denying us the freedom to pursue our dreams.
Basic income—direct cash payments — is a way for individuals and families to weather the unplanned crises that can set them on a path to poverty. With the growing threats of automation and income inequality, universal basic income is a real solution toward addressing many of our nation’s most pressing challenges. Investing directly in Americans has powered eras of abundance and transformation in decades past—and today we are called to reestablish the American Social Contract for a new generation, uplifted with equity of growth and prosperity.
We prioritize projects that will accelerate the narrative on universal basic income, like our groundbreaking pilot in Philadelphia for cancer patients. HFF is working with pilot partners and government agencies to secure waivers to protect federal benefits for these guaranteed income recipients.
Through both our programs, our research, and our storytelling, we aim to reveal the capacity of basic income to empower families and revitalize communities. We believe in a world in which a basic income grants everyone in America the freedom to unlock their human potential and dare to dream—and we believe that world is within our reach.
Company History
The Humanity Forward Foundation (HFF) was started during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, amid a startling need across America to provide immediate relief to people unprepared for the pandemic and urgently in need of help. With funding from forward-thinking philanthropists and thousands of Americans who share our vision of the transformative power of UBI, we supported a series of programs to provide cash assistance to communities hit hard by the pandemic—disbursing over $5.3 million in coronavirus microgrants to over 22,000 individuals over the course of 2020. Working with our partners at the 1K Program, HFF provided 1,000 families nationwide with three months of guaranteed income payments totalling $3 million.
