The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is currently hiring a full-time Accounting Clerk to provide provides administrative and financial support to the Accounting Department in the highest professional manner, handling details of a confidential and critical nature and exercising judgment and discretion on a daily basis.  This position must possess the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. This ideal candidate will perform a wide variety of accounting and administrative tasks such as preparing requisitions, maintaining accounting records, recording A/P, A/R and credit card payment transactions; recording deposits and credit card donations; preparing various reconciliations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and process invoices and check requests in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Review and process corporate credit card transactions in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing vendors
  • Ensure vendor invoices are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures
  • Assist with weekly check run and mailing of vendor payments
  • Manage accounts payable email inbox
  • Research and resolve vendor inquiries/discrepancies
  • Assist with AP month end close duties
  • Maintain W9 records
  • Assist with annual 1099 process
  • Deposit checks via bank scanner 
  • Record daily check, credit card and cash deposits
  • Verify cash received and deposit as necessary
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of contributions with Donor Perfect software
  • Generate A/R invoices on demand
  • Review A/R aging and follow up on outstanding items
  • Assist with reimbursement claims, as needed
  • Maintain filing and electronic records
  • Assist in compiling documentation for external audits
  • Perform other duties to support accounting and other departments as needed


EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is minimum of an Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business and two to four years of prior accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.  This individual must have excellent written communication and proofreading skills, a high level of personal integrity and confidentially, and must be able to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently. Someone who is a self-starter that enjoys working as part of a team but is comfortable seeking out answers and taking initiative to solve problems and takes advantage of opportunities.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Basic accounting knowledge, GAAP preferred
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel and Word skills with general knowledge of PowerPoint and general computer/internet skills. 
  • QuickBooks & NetSuite preferred


Ability to:

  • Work well in a fast-paced environment, utilizing initiative, good judgment, flexibility and high energy.
  • Operate a computer and word processing software and other standard office equipment.
  • Type accurately at a speed necessary to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Organize and set priorities. 
  • Work independently. 
  • Prepare clear, accurate and concise records and reports.
  • Organize research and maintain complex and extensive office files. 
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Use tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and concerned individuals. 
  • Maintain confidentiality in work, exercising good judgment and discretion at all times.
  • Problem-solve.

COMPENSATION

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt/hourly/benefited position.
  • A market-level competitive salary is between $20.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience. 
  • The compensation package includes a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package including: 403(b) plan with 200% employer matching; excellent health care coverage with free employee medical, dental and vision plans; company paid term life insurance; and a generous accrual of paid vacation and sick leave. 


WORK SCHEDULE 

  • Monday to Friday; 8 am to 5 pm.
